Loosen the law
In the wake of the Government making necessary changes to the Firearms Act, let’s expect that they also make changes to the Immigration Act.
This act needs to be modified to make it possible for older family members, eg elderly parents or uncles and aunts of the bereaved families, to come and live permanently in New Zealand to help look after the children of the bereaved, and the now single parents who will need to work to support their families. That some of these bereaved mothers have never worked before and may not drive won’t make their lives any easier.
With extra family members looking after the children, family costs will increase, so the Government also needs to make NZ Super available to these older family members even though they’ve never worked here, and will also need to provide access to the same medical care that New Zealanders have. How else will these young bereaved families survive?
The cost will be significant but because the massacre was carried out on our soil, all New Zealanders will need to bear the cost.
