TIATIA’S METEORIC RISE

-

Thomas was the victim of a homophobic assault, but Barrett has continued to wear them this year, to little fanfare.

Aside from the fact the laces ‘‘go with [my] boots’’, Barrett said it was part of a week where there has been a big focus on promoting unity.

‘‘Absolutely. And it was World Down Syndrome Day yesterday, which is really close to home for me.

‘‘I think it involves everyone, it’s about unity at the end of the day.’’

That unity will be shown with the visiting Stormers tonight as the teams again show their respects with a moment of silence before the game, but after that, Barrett expects a physical game of rugby.

‘‘They’re a quality side. They’ve got a lot of Springboks. I expect they’ll want to dominate physically, so we’re preparing for that.

‘‘They’ll probably go for that physical dominance, whether it’s up front or in the backs – they’ve got some big ball carriers in the backs as well, so it’s going to be a big challenge.’’
