Maney claim in spotlight
Police will assess an allegation that a witness was ‘‘threatened and harassed’’ into giving evidence that secured Gail Maney’s conviction for murder. On Monday, Stuff revealed that the witness has signed an affidavit that will now be used as fresh evidence in an attempt to clear Maney’s name over the death of Deane Fuller-Sandys’ in 1989. The witness – whose name has been permanently suppressed – said they lied about being present when the West Auckland man was killed. Police yesterday said: ‘‘These matters will be the subject of assessment, as will any other new information relevant to the death of Deane Fuller-Sandys in 1989.’’
