Suspicious fire at motel

Police investigating a suspicious fire at a Masterton motel have discovered that a ‘‘projectile’’, believed to be a molotov cocktail, was thrown at the reception. Police are investigating the fire at the Highwayman Motel, which happened at about 10.15pm on June 28. Motel owner and manager Kylie Bell said she felt lucky the suspected arsonist’s throw fell short. She was not at the motel that Friday night and did not find out about the incident until Saturday morning when she found a broken bottle and black soot running up a brick wall.
