First-class seats for $500

Three first-class airplane seats have gone up for auction on Trade Me – with the seller describing the carry-on limit as ‘‘all you can drink’’. The unusual item went on sale this week with the starting bid at $500. It was listed under the antiques and collectables section of the popular trading website. Images of party-goers holding alcoholic beverages accompanied the online auction, with the seller describing the seats as ‘‘cool, very comfy and great for a hot day’’. The seats were somehow acquired from a plane belonging to the German airline Lufthansa and have been in possession of the seller for nine years. The seller said the seats were functional with all normal comfort modes – including flip-out trays – and they were ‘‘great for watching movies in’’. The auction closes at midday on Tuesday.
