Protect our walkways
I fully support Maria MacKay (Letters, Aug 1) in her hope that safety for pedestrians should become an election issue.
When are pedestrians going to rise up and protest at the takeover by cyclists and scooters of footpaths meant for the simple, fundamental human activity of walking.
Ordinary walking is no longer a stress-free activity. Apprehension accompanies every pedestrian. Walkers can no longer just walk freely, they must jump aside or stand stock still in the presence of the new dangers.
Pedestrians have far too meekly given up the right to free and simple walking on footpaths. Rachel Salive, Waikanae
