Lochore’s funeral
The final sendoff for one of rugby’s favourite sons will be held at his beloved home ground. The sporting feats of Sir Brian Lochore are numerous but it was at
Masterton’s Memorial Park that he really hit his straps.
The former All Black captain, World Cupwinning coach and beloved Wairarapa family man’s funeral is on
Thursday at 1pm at the park.
The Wairarapa Bush Rugby Union is planning the event, which will include road closures and extensive logistical arrangements to host all those wishing to attend. It will be open to the public and union chief executive Tony Hargood said they were expecting thousands of guests. Masterton District Council and NZ Rugby have both pitched in to organise the funeral, with help from Sir Brian’s family.
