‘Extreme’ images found on man’s cellphone
A Wellington man has pleaded guilty to making sexual images of a 4-year-old girl. The 35-year-old faced numerous charges of making, possessing and distributing objectionable material at Wellington District Court yesterday. The man, who has interim name suppression, pleaded guilty to three representative charges, including taking multiple photos of a 4-year-old in sexualised poses. His possession of the images first came to light in 2018, when he took his cellphone to a repair shop on Lambton Quay. A police search of the man’s home found hundreds of images and videos, including children engaged in sexual activity, ‘‘extreme’’ exploitation images, and material involving both people and animals. Judge Jan Kelly ordered reports on alcohol, drugs and mental impairment. He will be sentenced in October.
