Not just a rural problem

I applaud young Zoe Carew (Letters, Aug 2) for highlighting the lack of protection of our rivers and streams from farm animals entering and polluting them.

I too have seen similar sights while mountain-biking behind Belmont and wondered how this could still be allowed to happen.

That it is happening in Belmont Stream, right in our city, shows this is not just a rural problem. We need more people like Zoe to raise awareness and challenge us and our councils to make a difference, not in 10 or 20 years, but now. Ross Mitchell, Lower Hutt
