-

New Zealand’s Jamie Greene has claimed a bronze medal at the annual CrossFit Games in the United States.

The 28-year-old finished third in the overall women’s standings at the four-day event, which was hosted in Wisconsin and wrapped up yesterday.

A former Otago gymnast and rugby player, Greene is based in the United Arab Emirates, coaching CrossFit in Abu Dhabi.

After making her debut at the Games in the team event in 2016, where her side placed third, Greene subsequently competed as an individual, placing eighth then 11th the past two years. But this time she made it to the podium, finishing on 851 points, 67 points clear of fourth place and 25 back from Norway’s Kristin Holte, in second.

Taking the title on 1071 points was Australian 25-year-old Tia-Clair Toomey, the Rio Olympic Games weightlifting gold medallist, who made it a hat-trick of crowns, following runners-up finishes in 2015-16.

Greene, who began competing in CrossFit in 2013, was consistent throughout, placing fourth in the ‘split triplet’, sixth in the ‘clean’, fourth in the ‘swim paddle’, sixth in ‘ringer one’, sixth in ‘ringer two’ and second in ‘the standard’.
