Biggs agree on divorce settlement
An enormous divorce case involving globetrotting former Queenstown couple Sophie and Tim Biggs has ended with a settlement, terminating what would have been a long, complex trial.
The hearing, when it started last week at the High Court in Auckland, was expected to last about three weeks.
But both sides have now managed to find common ground.
The civil proceeding has ended and the pair reached a settlement independently of the court. The terms are confidential.
With no future court dates scheduled, the divorce settlement ends years of litigation.
The couple met in Sydney and married in 2011. They separated by November 2014 before reconciling.
The share trader and his wife moved to Otago but then separated again, and their divorce proceedings started in 2016.
Previously, former stock broker Sophie Biggs said she had found litigation incredibly difficult. ‘‘I am seeking a fair outcome that properly recognises the huge amount of work I put into our various assets and supporting my then husband,’’ she said shortly before the trial.
