WATER SCIENTIST – TE KUWAHA

NIWA are experts in environmen­tal science. They conduct scientific research, provide applied science services and work in environmen­ts from the bottom of the seafloor to the top of the atmosphere. Te Kūwaha, NIWA’s National Centre of Māori Environmen­tal Research is involved in a range of research projects, working across and with NIWA’s science groups to facilitate the integratio­n of Mātauranga Māori and science for the benefit of iwi, hapū, and Māori communitie­s and organisati­ons.

You will work alongside other scientists to co-develop and implement research on wastewater treatment technologi­es with NIWA’s Māori partners and build and lead a range of projects in the water quality area that service the needs of whānau/hapū/iwi and Māori businesses.

We are searching for a proven relationsh­ip manager and effective communicat­or with a BSc or BE, MSc or ME or PhD; someone with experience in areas such as environmen­tal research, culturally appropriat­e wastewater treatment, environmen­tal engineerin­g, bioremedia­tion, sustainabi­lity research, aquatic pollution resource recovery and renewable energy, social/humanities research and Mātauranga Māori. Your experience working within te ao Māori to meet Māori research priorities and aspiration­s will be a strength, as will your knowledge and understand­ing of tikanga and Te Reo Māori.
