What can we expect?

-

The elephant in the room is the philosophical direction in which Judith Collins will lead the National Party.

Although Nikki Kaye and Amy Adams are retiring from Parliament (not from politics as most commentators would have it), while they share Collins’ socially liberal views, could they stomach her neo-liberal economic philosophy? She has already ruled out tax as a means of addressing the Covid debt, let alone the yawning wealth gap.

What can we expect now from the National Party?

David Thorp, Northland read and heard her war cry many times: We have to take the nation back from ‘‘the other lot’’. Such a dismissive and derisive term to use for the ruling party.

While I do not expect Judith to hug and kiss Jacinda Ardern, I do expect a modicum of civility to be extended to the leader of the other major party, who I believe, will extend the same courtesy to the leader of Opposition.

Covid pandemic, balancing financial common sense with a social conscience. I will certainly be voting that way and hope anyone seriously interested in our future does too.
