War records translated
An online military database has been translated into te reo to honourMa¯ori servicemen and women. AucklandWar Memorial Museum has introduced the changes to the user interfaces of its online cenotaph and collections in time for Te Wiki o te Reo Ma¯ori. The initiativewas funded by a $15,000 grant from lobby group InternetNZ. Auckland Museum collection manager Victoria Passau said the museumwanted to pay tribute to Ma¯ori military personnel through the use of te reo on its website. ‘‘We care for aworldrenowned collection of taonga, and it’s important for us to be able to share that information online.’’ The museum’s online cenotaph is a digital space where people can contribute to the records and stories of Kiwis who have served inwar.
