Bubble back on table

-

Australia’s political leaders have had another discussion about a trans-Tasman travel bubble, with Prime Minister Scott Morrison saying 15 per cent going through quarantine in Australia now are returning from NewZealand. Morrison said the issue came up yesterday at ameeting of the National Cabinet. After the meeting, Morrison said the cap on Australians returning home would be raised gradually over the coming weeks. If NewZealand and Australia could get to a point where people from areas without outbreaks could travel without needing to quarantine in hotels, itwould free up spaces in the system, the ABC network quoted Morrison as saying. ‘‘For example, the whole of the South Island, that’s an area where there is no Covid. So if we could get to a situation soon where those coming home from NewZealand are able to enter Australia without going into a 14-day quarantine ... we see that as anotherway of enabling more and more Australians to come home.’’
