World champion retires
Former world champion double sculler John Storey has retired from rowing ahead of the Tokyo Olympics. Storey’s daughter, Ava, was recently diagnosed with a rare chromosomal disorder, 1p36 deletion syndrome. The 33-yearold withdrew from trials in March to select the elite New Zealand men’s team and has opted to focus on his family. Storey won gold in the men’s double sculls with Chris Harris for New Zealand at the 2017 world championships in Florida.
