Texas wants movie star as new governor, poll shows
He has been a cowboy with HIV, a campaigning lawyer and the head of a family of serial killers, but Texans want Matthew McConaughey’s next role to be as their governor. A poll gives the Oscar-winning star, 51, a 12-point lead over the Republican Greg Abbott, who is seeking a third term next year. McConaughey was born and brought up in the Lone Star state. Although he is yet to declare formally, he has a YouTube channel and 630,000 subscribers dedicated to extolling Texas’ virtues.
