Opposition quiet
Whether to offend our Western friends or China is the dilemma New Zealand faces
at the moment and in the near future.
Both, it would seem, are watching us and waiting for us to sing their song, and if not, to impose whatever sanction they think will hurt the most. Occupying the high moral ground counts for little in international relations.
Then there is the further impending question of our response when – not if – China invades Taiwan.
So far the Opposition has said nothing, helpful or otherwise. Its active cooperation with the Government in such important matters would enhance its credibility.
