Parker’s elbow issue returns

-

Joseph Parker’s elbow issues have resurfaced, leaving him sweating over a quick return to action following his win over Dereck Chisora.

Parker beat Chisora by a controversial split points decision in Manchester last Sunday.

He wants to fight again in July or August with a rematch against Chisora touted for the Tyson Fury v Anothony Joshua blockbuster that is tentatively scheduled for that timeframe in Saudi Arabia.

Parker confirmed he had been troubled by a right elbow problem mid-fight against Chisora.

His manager, David Higgins, suggested it could have been one reason Parker was reluctant to go for the big shots when he had Chisora open on the ropes in the tight 12th round,

‘‘Joe did tell me that he suffered an elbow injury halfway through,’’ Higgins told Sky Sports. ‘‘He hasn’t said that publicly, I don’t know if he will, but he did tell me that.

‘‘He’s going to get his right elbow looked at, because that could be why you didn’t see the flurry at the end when Chisora was on the ropes.

Parker has had a history of elbow problems.
