Suu Kyi allies create armed force to combat junta

Myanmar’s government-in-hiding has announced the creation of an armed force to combat the junta, in a reversal of its policy of non-violence. The National Unity Government (NUG), which is made up of opponents of the coup who are in hiding or in exile, announced yesterday the creation of a people’s defence force. No details were provided of the structure or personnel, but the force appears to unite anti-junta activists who have gone to Myanmar’s borders to undergo military training.
