Arrest over threats to MP

A 25-year-old man has been charged in relation to threats against National MP Simeon Brown. Police said yesterday the man was arrested at a Lower Hutt address without incident. He will appear at the Hutt Valley District Court on Thursday, facing a charge of threatening to kill. Brown, 30, is the MP for the Auckland electorate of Pakuranga. Wellington field crime manager Detective Inspector Darrell Harpur said the Counties Manukau police received the original complaint and Lower Hutt officers found the alleged offender yesterday. Police would not be commenting further now that the case was before the courts. Brown said he reported the threats to police himself and that he was doing OK. He was unable to comment further because the matter was before the courts.
