The historic photo of the parked cars in last week’s YW was taken in 1949. What gorgeous beauties!

The latest model car in it is a Studebaker bullet nose, which hit the showrooms 1948 in the States. I’d have loved even the briefest of brief flings with one, but she was ‘‘outa-myclass’’ and left me in the dust.

A stop-start affair with an older model Vauxhall helped dry my tears, but my dreams finally came true with a side valve threespeed Ford Prefect, which did for car racing what donkeys did for the Melbourne Cup.
