Press pause on plan

-

May I implore Wellington City Council to press pause on the implementation of the new Spatial Plan. It strikes me as foolhardy to continue applying a preCovid plan to a post-Covid future.

A major interruption to life such as an earthquake (Christchurch), a war or a pandemic (all of us) has effects which are unforeseeable until after the event is over.

Let us see first how much life and employment is changed by Covid, particularly the pattern of daily commuting to the central city now that we’ve all learned to work online.

Let us also find out whether Wellington needs large hotel and conference centres once the international business community re-examines the carbon footprint of long-distance flights. We have all learned to use international Zoom. Please press pause.
