Dying patient given the heart of a GM pig
A patient in America has received a heart transplant from a genetically modified pig for the first time, in a groundbreaking procedure that could help to end the waiting list for organs. David Bennett Sr, who lives in the state of Maryland, is said to be doing well three days after the operation, with the new heart beating and pumping blood. Doctors now plan to remove him from a heart-lung bypass machine in what will be a crucial step towards showing that the procedure has been successful.
