Road closure extended

The Desert Road between Rangipo and Waiouru will be closed for a third day today between 7am and 5pm. Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency said the work on the road to repair two slips was taking longer than expected. However the agency was confident the work would be completed and the road reopened for the weekend. A further road closure is expected to take place later this month or early next, towards the end of the project. Motorists are asked to detour around the western side of Mt Ruapehu via National Park during today’s road closure.
