Less thought more action

-

It is tiresome listening to Greater Wellington Regional Council make more excuses for the inexcusable ( Bus driver fix a long way off, Nov 8). It now has money from the Government yet still can’t lift its pace from a stagger to a sprint.

What the council needs is an energetic

chair and an energetic chief executive to call in the bus operators and tell them how the new flows of cash will work. The money is intended for the drivers and, if the bus operators don’t like the arrangement, then it’s a great time for them to leave. It would be no great loss.

Why would any potential bus drivers rush to work for us when it takes till April to sort out their money?

The way that this should work is that the GWRC chief executive should be working on this funding issue 40% of his time until he has got it sorted. No bonus payments for anyone at the council until the drivers are fixed!

With recruitment and training of our bus drivers we should be seeing on the website a daily report of how many drivers have been recruited that day, how many are in training and how many jobs are still vacant. Only by having this top of mind will our chair and CEO motivate themselves and their team to do what needs to be done.

Each day they need a Churchillian

Action This Day list, not just in their diaries, but on their website. We have at GWRC, I regret to say, too much thought and not nearly enough action. I had hoped for better from a refreshed council.
