Childcare teachers need action

-

It is good that the Labour Government is putting more subsidies into early childhood education ( More families set to receive subsidised childcare, Nov 7) but that will not get more teachers into ECE.

Without kaiako (teachers), centres can take on no more tamariki. The reason there is a shortage of kaiako is there is too much stress put on them to prove they are doing a good job.

Teachers are leaving because of the stress on them to always write reviews to prove performance.

To perform well is not important to bureaucrats; it has become all about producing written proof of work done.

Teaching is no longer any fun. Time for the Government to look after our teachers.
