Beautifying the gully
Yes, Richard Byrne (letters, Nov 12), I fully endorse your view that our magnificent Transmission Gully Highway could be made a much more interesting drive with the addition of feature trees and shrubs in this landscape.
As a further enhancement befitting this road that leads into our national capital city, let’s consider the addition also of some bold and striking large sculptures. Let’s talk at least three, maybe four, spaced appropriately along the highway’s 27 kilometres.
For examples, go online and see the Kelpies of Falkirk horse heads (Scotland) and the Angel of the North (England). Modern lighting techniques can be used to further enhance such a sculpture at night. Such structures become much-loved way points and landmarks for both regular drivers and tourists.
Perhaps a national competition for the final designs?
