Beach sand on the move

Wellington City Council will next week shift sand from Freyberg Beach to Oriental Bay in preparation for summer. Weather permitting, the beaches will be closed on November 21 and 22 while heavy machinery does the redistribution work. This year there’s less sand to shift, due to wetter weather reducing windblown sand shifting, and/or fewer strong wind and storm events. Council staff will be at the beach to ensure safety and provide more information if needed.
