Police call for safety

-

Police are warning rugby league fans to keep safe this weekend as they watch the World Cup final taking place in Manchester early on Sunday morning when Samoa play Australia. ‘‘We wish our Samoan aiga all the best - fly your flags high, but please keep yourselves and others safe,’’ said Hutt Valley Area Commander Inspector Dion Bennett. Police had unsafe driving behaviour reported to them after the win in the semifinal against England that took Samoa to the World Cup final for the first time. Bennett said police will have a presence in areas fans would gather, and would respond to any issues that arise, such as unsafe driving or disorder. ‘‘Regardless of whether you’re backing blue or going for the green and gold, remember – don’t drop the ball, and keep yourselves and everyone else safe until the last play,’’ he said.
