Bluebeard’s Castle next year

-

The NZ Symphony Orchestra and NZ Opera are partnering to perform a new interpretation of Béla Barto´k’s operatic masterpiece Bluebeard’s Castle in Wellington and Christchurch next year. The production of the Hungarian composer’s only opera is a reimagining that premiered in London last year to universal praise. The newly formed company Theatre of Sound set Bluebeard’s Castle, first staged in 1918, in the present day and focused on a married couple facing the devastating reality of dementia. It will premiere in Wellington on August 10 next year at the Michael Fowler Centre and in Christchurch’s Town Hall on August 12. Tickets on sale now for NZSO members and NZ Opera subscribers at nzso.co.nz and nzopera.com; general admission tickets available from next year.
