Man attacked for alcohol

A Gisborne couple are recovering from a violent attack at their property carried out by four men in search of alcohol. About 9.30pm on Saturday, a couple in their 60s were at home in Riverdale when a vehicle reversed into their driveway. Four men, described in a police statement as between the ages of 18 and 20, confronted the man at his door, demanding he give them alcohol before attacking him. The victim was hit over the head with a bottle and punched and kicked several times. The man was later taken to Gisborne Hospital, where he was being treated for serious head injuries and broken ribs. He is in a stable condition.
