Good time music
Hutt-based Irish musician Gerry Paul is bringing to Wellington and Petone what he describes as one of the most entertaining bands locals might ever see.
Gordie MacKeeman’s ‘‘ Crazy Legs’’ dance style and good time music stays in audiences’ memories for years.
Find him on YouTube to see him simultaneously playing the fiddle and standing upon a double bass and you will be sold, Paul says.
Hailing from Prince Edward Island on Canada’s east coast, the multi-award-winning Gordie MacKeeman and His Rhythm Boys serve up old-time roots music in an exhilarating live show. The band features Gordie MacKeeman (fiddle, feet, and vocals), Mark Geddes ( bass, drums, percussion, mandolin, and banjo), Thomas Webb (vocals, banjo, guitar, pedal steel guitar, and bass) and Peter Cann (vocals and guitar).
Their album Pickin’ n Clickin’ was honoured with the 2014 East Coast Music Award for Roots Traditional Group Recording of the Year and the band were awarded the Galaxie Supernova Award at the 2012 Ottawa Folk Festival for their outstanding high-energy performance.
After appearances at the likes of Glastonbury festival and beyond, the band make their debut New Zealand with performances at the Wellington Bluegrass Society in Petone and at San Fran as CubaDupa Festival.
Gordie and his Boys will be supported at San Fran on Saturday, March 28 by The Wellington Shake-’Em-On-Downers, a local group who Paul says deliver scintillating swing, dapper Dixieland and the nastiest ole New Orleans sound to be found outside of a speakeasy.
