Brophy backs proposal
Richard Meros’ proposal that if Hillary Clinton took him as her young lover, she would win the race to the White House ‘‘is a great idea’’, says Geraldine Brophy.
The Naenae-based actress plays an American psychologist brought in by Homeland Security to assess Meros in the film, On the Conditions and Possibilities of Hillary Clinton Taking Me as Her Young Lover.
‘‘It’s satire, which there is not enough of, but intelligent comedy, without the profanity and the bottoms,’’ Brophy said. ’’It’s intellectually satisfying for those interested in politics and wanting a good laugh.’’
The alter ego of New Zealand actor Arthur Meek, tuxedo-wearing Meros is a delightfully earnest Kiwi academic who arrives in the US to propose an extraordinary theory: that he is destined to save the Free World by winning the heart of Hilary Clinton.
The 44-minute film follows Meros to the depths of an interrogation cell where he fights his romantic case.
Peter Jackson allowed the crew to use some of the lighting and camera equipment used to film his big blockbusters, as well as the postproduction facilities at Park Road Post.
The film, which had a budget of $40,500, was shot over four days at Avalon Studios in Wellington in January 2016, a little over two months was spent on editing.
The film is on Vimeo On Demand and will be released on iTunes.
