Pitching in to help with Stokes Valley softball

- NICHOLAS BOYACK

The Stokes Valley Softball Club is looking to make its mark in the Hutt Valley competition.

The club is fielding five teams, including a Premier Two men’s team stacked with talent.

Player coach Jerol Lajpold has worked with Ben Manu to put the team together. A number of the players were formerly involved with the Premier One Marist club.

Well known players include Shaun Taylor, Ricky Wardlaw and Michael Foote.

Lapjold will do the pitching duties and is looking to rekindle his career.

In recent years he has concentrated on looking after his daughter, rather than playing serious softball. He is now looking to make his mark again.

‘‘I am keen to have a crack at the Black Sox next year.’’

His aim is to win Premier Two and play in the top level the next season.

Lapjold hopes the squad will be further boosted by Axton Daniels and Bronson Marino, who have been part of the unsuccessful Orcas rugby league campaign.

Their first game is against Hutt City United this Thursday at Fraser Park at 6.15pm.
