The Hutt News - - FRONT PAGE -

What will Lower Hutt look like in ten years? That is a question to think about as a number of major projects get under way.

This week we note that work has finally started on Lower Hutt’s long promised hotel. Last week, the council successfully sold the BNZ site to developer Ian Cassels. The new events centre and town hall is nearing completion, as is Fraser Park Sportsville.

Details of RiverLink, turning the city towards the Hutt River, are starting to emerge with preliminary plans for the Melling Interchange.

RiverLink will have a dramatic impact on the city and should hopefully lead to the much needed interchange.

Unfortunately, it also means that the Riverbank Market will need a new home, although exactly where that is, is anyone’s guess.

It all means that in ten to 15 years, Lower Hutt will look very different from what it does today.

It has taken years of planning to get to this stage and hopefully RiverLink will go ahead without major hurdles or delays.
