Cup day set to be a big summer party
Wellington Racing is gearing up for the biggest summer party on the region’s social calendar – the Wellington Cup Day.
After a rough 2021 for all Kiwis, and with Omicron lurking, organisers are hoping for a great turn-out to the Trentham Racecourse on Saturday.
‘‘It’s been a tough 2021 for most with lockdowns, restrictions on events, cancellations and postponements.
‘‘We know a lot of people are keen to unwind, socialise, dress up and engage with friends and family once again.
‘‘Wellington Cup Day is the perfect opportunity for people to do this among the finest show of thoroughbred racing, fashion, superb hospitality and entertainment,’’ says Lucy Doig, general manager of Wellington Racing Club.
The one-day event will operate for double-vaccinated attendees in orange level, with a capacity of almost 10,000. A refund will be available if the event is cancelled due to the region moving into red.
However, Doig is hopeful the event will go ahead as planned. ‘‘With such high vaccination rates across the region and the rest of the country we are confident the event will take place, especially given that even more people will be vaccinated by the end of January.’’
The feedback received has been ‘‘extremely positive’’ and she is expecting a great turnout because there are limited events happening across the region over summer.
The opportunity for stakes and winnings doesn’t stop with the racegoers, there is also Fashion in the Field, which has some fantastic prizes.
