The Insider's Guide to New Zealand
Industry
Industry popped up as a pop-up in 2015 and, several years later, it's still here and thriving. Much like the wares inside, this is a store with soul, with stories to tell and of rather good quality. Industry specialises in locally sourced vintage items, with a gaze on mid-century collectables, furniture and art. Darren Breen mans the store whilst owner Andy is out “searching for things”. He's loath to pick favourite pieces, but there's a vintage leather jacket from the local fire brigade that conjures images of a very dashing Danny Zuko-esque fireman, and a kauri table painted pink with a red Formica top.
While quality vintage is becoming harder to find, Industry manages to discover gems in the surrounding community, with many items having been handed down for several generations before arriving in store, waiting for a new owner to fall in love with them.
