The Insider's Guide to New Zealand

Blackies

-

While Blackies may not be the largest café in Whangamata, it does have the best outdoor area – all of Williamson Park. Tucked in one corner of the park, just back from the beach, Blackies is one of the busiest spots in town come summer. In January, it’s possible for the staff to serve 1400 coffees per day, while also serving fresh cabinet food, making meals from the menu and hand-rolling ice creams for lines of salty swimmers and sunbathers. Blackies is also open during winter, so dog walkers and coatclad wanderers can enjoy a warming brew. 418 Ocean Road, Whangamata. (07) 865 9834, on Facebook.
