Great spotted kiwi (roroa)
Roroa are frequently heard around the Arthur's Pass village but rarely seen. The male birds have a high-pitched, loud whistle and can be heard all year round whereas females with their warbling trill usually call in spring and summer. The best time to listen out is 2 hours after dark.
