Queenstown Winter Festival, 20-23 June 2019. The winter festival celebrates all things cold and adventurous. There are many events taking place over four days, with fun on the slopes, on the water, in town and on several stages. Highlights include the annual Birdman competition, where the brave don homemade wings and attempt to soar above Queenstown Bay. winterfestival.co.nz NZ Mountain Film & Book Festival, Queenstown, 6 July 2019. This New Zealand-made festival is one of the world's premier mountain film events. Held mid-winter, it is perfectly timed so viewers can hunker down with roasted hazelnuts for a film fix. There are also inspirational workshops and presentations focusing on adventurous lifestyles, environmental issues and remote travel. mountainfilm.nz Air New Zealand Queenstown International Marathon, November 2019. The prospect of running trails that wind alongside lakes and rivers with a backdrop of those remarkable mountains attracts a huge field of 10,000 runners and walkers each year.
