The Insider's Guide to New Zealand

Devils Punchbowl Walking Track, Arthur’s Pass

-

This easy loop track leads to the 131m-high Devils Punchbowl Waterfall, which is surrounded by lush beech forest. From the car park, follow the footbridge across the Bealey River.

The following bridge, over Devils Punchbowl Creek, provides a great view of the waterfall. From this point, walk through forest alive with friendly fantails and other birds before climbing up a series of steps (150m) to a viewing point below the waterfall. Return on the same track. Even in summer this track can turn wet and cold very quickly so walkers are advised to pack layers and wear sturdy footwear. Start at the Punchbowl car park at the northern end of Arthur's Pass Village.
