The Insider's Guide to New Zealand
St Paul’s Memorial Church,PUtiki
The small size and simple exterior of the church, built in 1937, doesn’t boast of the intricate beauty inside. Such carved, woven and painted elements would normally be seen only in a meeting house rather than an Anglican church. The quality of the carving, tukutuku wall panels and kowhaiwhai rafter designs is exceptional. The church also has two fine English stainedglass windows in memory of local parishioners and ministers. Tours can be booked at the Whanganui i-SITE Visitor Centre. 20 Anaua Street.
