The Insider's Guide to New Zealand
Rewi Alley Memorial Park, Rangiora historic buildings, Springfield Doughnut
Springfield is the birthplace of famous New Zealander Rewi Alley, known for his social development work in China and for building friendships between New Zealand and China. In celebration of Alley's life, the Rewi Alley Memorial Park was opened in 1997, on the 100th anniversary of his death. The park is a tranquil spot with a concrete structure containing panels of images and information about Alley's life as well as lush trees, picnic tables and a large rock carving. Rewi Alley was a teacher, farmer, social reformer, peace activist and an absolute Kiwi legend – a true feather in Springfield's cap – and this memorial park is an apt tribute. Tawera Lane, Springfield
