Tokanui Golf Club

-

The southernmost nine-hole course in New Zealand, possibly in the world, this 9-holer is very different from its northern counterpart, Owaka Golf Club, some 92km away. For a start it’s a links course and its situation on a point means that as well as glorious ocean views it is exposed to the elements. On a calm day players get to revel in what is a magnificent setting. Should the southerly be around golfers will find themselves battling both the wind and the course. Be warned: the course and Mother Nature are the likely winners in that contest. Go round the nine holes twice and what you’re playing is a 4880m course with a par of 70. Club days are Saturday, the rest of the week the course is open but unattended. Green fees: $10 (9 or 18 holes). 1 Boat Harbour Road, Fortrose. (03) 246 8520
