The Insider's Guide to New Zealand

Artists

Lynley van Alphen set up home in the Catlins following her art and heart after the passing of her husband. There is now no stopping the productive artist who confesses she is obsessed with getting in her truck on a whim and heading to a scenic isolated spot with her oils and palette knife to paint plein air. Her gallery (and home) is located in Owaka’s original drapery shop and filled with her paintings. She is passionate and productive. Her trips often take her to the Central Otago of her childhood but the Catlins landscape is ever-present in her work, a landscape she considers feminine and layered with crisp and vibrant greens. 10 Waikawa Road, Owaka. 027 654 0225, artinthecatlins.com
