The Insider's Guide to New Zealand

The Falls Retreat

-

It's not surprising that really good accommodation is often located on the same property as the owner's homes. B&Bs, cabins, guest lodges, glamping or in this case, a tiny 3mx3m cabin with a loft view over Owaharoa Falls – if the owners share their property with guests, it's often because they know they have something too special to keep to themselves. That was the case with Emma and Brad King from The Falls Retreat;

Rose Cottage was already on site when they purchased the property in 2011 but they built the tiny Waterfall Cabin as a cosy weekend retreat for couples.

It's hard to imagine a better place for a weekend escape. The Falls Retreat Bistro is steps away, so there's no reason to even think about picking up a pot or pan, the Rail Trail is at the bottom of the hill and the outdoor bath is ready and waiting for a peaceful evening soak under the stars. If height or family size calls for a larger space than the cabin, then Rose Cottage sleeps four and has a kitchenette included (but really – the bistro is right there).

Breakfast is included, and packages are available for special occasions.
