The Insider's Guide to New Zealand
HIMATANGI
At the northern end of the coast, just before its curve intensifies at Tangimoana, Himatangi is a small beach town that swells by the hundreds in the summer. If it seems particularly sandy, it's because it is, sitting on what's apparently the southern hemisphere's largest dune. Himatangi is perhaps a bit more rumpled than the beach towns further south, but that's how the locals like it.
