The Insider's Guide to New Zealand

Cream horns

-

The nearly-always-full car park is a good sign that Viv’s Kitchen in Sanson is going gangbusters. While there's a full menu of café favourites, the biggest treats are Viv's cream horns. These flaky pastry shells, filled with sweet cream and a choice of a fruity, caramel or chocolate flavour, are every bit as delicious as they look. On a busy day, she can sell more than 350, all hand-cut, rolled and filled onsite. Viv reports that the best-seller is raspberry, although the lemon or passionfruit are highly recommended. They're truly delicious, but, as they're very flaky and dusted with icing sugar, do not eat in the car. 9 Dundas Road, Sanson.
