The Leader Nelson edition

Fine end to series

- By ROB ANGLESEY

The final round of the Nelson and Marlborough Motorcycle clubs Marlborough Trials centres Top of the South crosscountry series was held on a perfect day at Ward on Saturday.

A small field of 30 seniors faced the start. Ethan Bruce was away at the Tarawera 100 event and beyond reach in the overall and two-stroke class.

In fact, most classes had been decided before the final round.

The two classes still up in the air were the four-stroke under and four-stroke over classes.

Josh Donald and Dylan Waghorn were both in line for second overall and first in the four-stroke under class.

Both Josh and Dylan had a poor start but went through the field on the first lap and continued battling for the rest of the three-hour race to get an extra lap in over the rest.

Josh was more consistent than Dylan to take the win and overall title in the fourstroke under and second overall in the series with Dylan second in class and third overall. Scott Orchard was third on the day and third in the two-stroke class.

The overall for the fourstroke over class was won by Josh Coleman by 1 point from Kim Wakelin second and Mat Quinn third.

The juniors and women lined up first for the 11⁄ hour race.

Jackson Walker and Josh Orchard were the two riders needing a good round to see who would take the overall title but with a track suited more to the bigger bikes Jackson could manage only fourth to take first in the 85 class and second overall.

Josh and Alex McCallum had a good battle swapping the lead for most of the race until Alex had a crash dropping him back to fifth on the day and second overall in the up to 200 two-stroke-300 fourstroke class with Josh taking the win and overall in the series and in his class. Keegan Anglesey was third, and in the up to 200 two-stroke-300 fourstroke class.

Deli Puklowski won the women’s class with sister Gabby Bruce second and Michelle Walker in third.

This year’s series has been good with fine weather at all the rounds and great tracks.

Organisers Tony Donald and Adrian Orchard and their

Mike Fodie on his way to first place in the Vets section on the day and fourth overall on his Yamaha YZF250. helpers did an excellent job of all the tracks.

The club thanks the landowners as without them there would be no series.

See sportsground.co.nz/ nmcc for further information on the series.
